With the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), Thailand has created an attractive option for digital nomads, remote workers, or culture enthusiasts to live long-term in the Kingdom. This visa offers you the flexibility to combine work and leisure while experiencing Thai culture in depth.


🌍 What is the DTV Visa?

The DTV is a 5-year visa with the option to stay in Thailand for up to 180 days per entry. It allows multiple entries and can be extended annually. It is particularly attractive for people under 50 years of age who are looking for a long-term stay in Thailand.
You can also extend it during your 180-day stay by an additional 180 days without leaving the country (fee approx. 1,999 THB).


Requirements for application

• You must be at least 20 years old.
• You must not have a history of long-term visa overstays with Thai immigration.
• You must have at least 500,000 THB (or the international equivalent) in liquid funds to prove that you can financially support yourself during your stay in Thailand.
• Alternatively, Thai immigration may accept a sponsor in Thailand as guarantor, provided they have sufficient financial means and formally commit to supporting you.
• Please also note: the Thai embassy where you apply may require you to show a higher balance in your bank account.


For dependents of DTV visa holders:

• You must be the legally recognized spouse of the DTV visa holder OR
• You must be a legally recognized, dependent, unmarried son or daughter under 20 years of age of the DTV visa holder.


🛂 Applying for the DTV Visa

The DTV visa cannot be applied for within Thailand. You must travel to your home country or another country to apply at a Thai embassy or through the official eVisa system. Please note that processing times may vary.


Required documents:

• Passport (valid for at least 6 months)
• Passport photo (2x4, with white background)
• Proof of your current residence, e.g., residence permit or entry stamp in your passport
• Proof of visa fee payment (depends on the consulate, usually between 400 and 500 USD)
• Proof of sufficient financial means (at least 500,000 THB – the embassy may require a higher amount).


Possible proofs include:

o Official bank statement for the past 6 months (crypto or investment statements not accepted)
o Pay slips
o Sponsorship letters

• Employment certificate or work contract
• Letter from your employer confirming remote work and ongoing salary payments
• Tax notice and current salary slips (optional but recommended)

For self-employed / entrepreneurs:

• Certificate of incorporation

• Cover letter explaining your business activity


For freelancers:

• Professional portfolio or proof of freelance work
(e.g., invoices, screenshots of platform profiles like Fiverr, LinkedIn, or your website)

Thai Soft Power Activities:
• Confirmation of participation in a cultural, academic, or professional training program in Thailand
• Supporting documents, e.g., proof of the institution’s business registration
• Important: the activity must last at least 6 months – shorter programs may result in rejection of the application

For dependents of DTV visa holders:
• Marriage certificate, birth certificate, adoption certificate, or other official document proving the relationship to the DTV visa holder
